Celso Amorim, especial advisor to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on international affairs, expressed concern on Friday about the lack of clarity in the results of recent elections in Venezuela.
In an interview with CNN Brasil, Amorim highlighted the absence of disclosure of electoral minutes, which prevents official recognition of the declared victory of Nicolás Maduro.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela proclaimed Maduro, who has held office since 2013, as the winner.
However, the opposition disputes this result, claiming that its own count, which covers around 90% of votes, indicates that the opposition candidate González received more than double the support compared to the current president. These numbers are in line with independent polls conducted before the election.
“We need to talk to the CNE itself, to other actors, and have a clearer notion of what happened, because the truth is that until today we don’t have that clear vision because the minutes have not been distributed as expected”, explained Amorim.
He also mentioned that, although the opposition presents data based on rapid counts and exit polls, these are considered informal and require a more in-depth investigation to be validated.
