Pop industry attempts to shape global opinion that US Vice President Kamala Harris is the best choice for the presidential election against Donald Trump after Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race. As soon as Biden left the presidential race, singer Beyoncé released her song “Freedom” for Harris’s campaign, which she left the press conference on Monday (22) to the sound of the song.
Another artist who boosted Harris’s name for possible nomination at the Democratic Party convention is British singer Charli XCX. She called Harris “Brat”, a term taken from the title of her album, which establishes a concept and aesthetic related to festive and youthful energy. The title connects with young voters and has been adopted by Harris’s campaign, which has started to release a series of memes that mix speeches, dances, and jokes.
Other celebrities who have expressed support for Harris’s candidacy include musicians Janelle Monáe, John Legend, and Kate Perry, who even promoted her new single “Woman’s Word” during the show of support. From the film industry, actors George Clooney, Viola Davis, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robert De Niro, and Barbra Streisand have fully endorsed the industry’s direction around Harris’s name.
A similar phenomenon occurred in Barack Obama’s first election, when his campaign also received support from the propaganda monopolies. Both in Obama’s time and now with Harris, thousands of journalists, artists, and left-wing activists from Brazil have also expressed their support for the Democrat, a phenomenon that seeks to hide its dark origins.
Kamala Harris began her career as a deputy district attorney from 1990 to 1998. She then became a district attorney in San Francisco, taking office in 2004. In 2011, she became the Attorney General of California and remained in office until 2017.
Her tenure as Attorney General was marked by a radical stance on “intolerance against crime” and action against ethnic minorities and immigrants. She was criticized by social movements, minority rights organizations, and her own party. According to reports, she was one of the responsible parties for implementing measures that led to young blacks and Latinos being imprisoned for trivial reasons, as well as combating sex workers and forcing transgender people to be imprisoned in men’s prisons.
Despite being the first black woman to hold a seat as a prosecutor in California, she was pointed out by black American movements as responsible for freeing police officers involved in racism and police violence, as reported by the New York Times on August 9, 2020. In 2015, a year before entering the Senate, she was involved in a scandal reported by the press that the team she led had falsified confessions, altered interrogation transcripts, and engaged in other evidence manipulation.
In terms of foreign policy, Harris supported the proposal for US intervention in Syria and expressed support for maintaining the embargo on Cuba. She also participated in lectures at the AIPAC (American Committee on Public Affairs of Israel) lobby, which has been active in the United States since 1963 to support the State of “Israel”.
Despite the massacre committed by “Israel” against Palestinians, Kamala Harris defended the sending of more resources to the country and stated in 2017 at an AIPAC conference: “In the midst of uncertainty and turmoil, the United States’ support for Israel’s security must be as solid as a rock… We must be with Israel… While Hamas maintains control of Gaza and fires rockets on the southern border of Israel, we must be with Israel.”
