Private and public sanitation companies want the sector to be regulated like healthcare in the tax reform. The request is to be classified in the 60% reduced rate and will be taken to the rapporteur of the proposal, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), in a meeting on Monday.
Currently, the text foresees a 9.74% increase in the tax burden to 26.5%. The group estimates that the change will result in an average increase of 18% in water and sewage tariffs. It also points out that even beneficiaries of the social tariff regime, who are entitled to a cashback, will be affected, with an average increase of 6.5% in the tariff.
